NOAC Support Staff

A National Order of the Arrow Conference could not function effectively without the dedicated service of those Arrowmen who work with the conference committees. These Arrowmen are referred to as "support staff".

Members of the NOAC support staff pay their own way to the conference, often traveling with their own lodge contingent. At the conference, they work for one or more days, some the entire week, in a support role to help make the national conference a successful and enjoyable event.

Support Staff Applicants

[The NOAC 2002 Staff Registration Site]

A new on-line support staff application process is now being used for this National OA Conference. The process is a combination of electronic input and hard-copy forms for recording the appropriate signatures.

All Arrowmen interested in being considered for a support staff assignment should apply online. They will receive a completed printable Support Staff Application at the conclusion of the initial process. (Arrowmen who have already submitted a paper form should see the Special Instructions below.)

A blank paper form is also available (see below) but this will significantly slow down your assignment process and you may not be able to check the status of your application on-line.

Go to www.noacregistration.com to begin the online staff application process.

Important! The deadline for submitting a signed NOAC support staff application to the National OA Office is February 15, 2002.

All Arrowmen interested in serving as NOAC support staff members MUST have the OA Director, Scout executive, lodge adviser, and a conference committee lead adviser's approval before they will be sent a "Letter of Assignment and Confirmation" of their selection as a conference committee support staff member.

A more detailed description of the process is given below.

Special Instructions for Staff Applicants Who already downloaded a paper form

If you downloaded a paper support staff application form before the on-line site became active please follow these steps:

If you have not yet filled out the paper form, or have not yet gotten all the required signatures:

  1. Discard the paper form
  2. Go to the online site and follow the regular application process
  3. Use the completed application form produced by the on-line site to collect your signatures and submit them to the national office.

If you have already completed the paper form, gotten the required signatures, and sent the form to the Lead Adviser:

  1. Go to the online site and follow the application process to enter your information and qualifications. Please enter the same information as you listed on the paper form you submitted.
  2. When the on-line site says to print out a copy of your application and use it to get the your signatures, just ignore that step. The paper form you already submitted will provide the necessary approvals.

Detailed NOAC Staff Application Process

  1. All Arrowmen interested in serving on the NOAC support staff should apply on-line at www.noacregistration.com.

Alternately, they can secure a blank paper Support Staff Application by writing, with a self-addressed stamped envelope, to one of the Conference Committee Lead Advisers or the application can be down-loaded from the Order's official web site: www.oa-bsa.org. SUPPORT STAFF APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FROM THE NATIONAL OFFICE, BSA. Note: Using a blank paper form will slow down your assignment process and you may not be able to check the status of your application on-line.

  2. Applicants complete the support staff application information in the on-line Staff Application section. If using a non-electronic form, you will also need to attach a detailed description of your qualifications to your completed form before returning the signed application to the National Office. The capability to describe your qualifications is available in the on-line application process. Signatures of the local Scout Executive and Lodge Adviser are required regardless of the method used to apply for a position. The deadline for submitting a signed NOAC Support Staff Application to the National Office is February 15, 2002.

  3. Applicants return the support staff application to the National Office where the application will be processed for approval by the Lead Adviser of the committee on which the applicant wishes to serve.

  4. The Lead Adviser will electronically review the application and either approve or reject the applicant.

If approved, the Lead Adviser , will update the on-line system indicating committee selection, the applicants approved arrival date and first meal, and updates the application status to indicate the completed application is ready for OA Director final review and approval.

If not selected, the Lead Adviser updates the on-line system with notes on the rejection of the application and updates the application to go into the Staffing Pool. If an applicant is not selected for a particular committee, but can be recommended for a position on another committee, the Lead Adviser may forward the application directly to another Lead Adviser for additional consideration.

  5. The OA Director reviews all applications and authorizes final approval of all support staff. Upon final approval the Director sends a Letter of Assignment and Confirmation to the applicant and updates the on-line system to indicate the Letter of Assignment and Confirmation has been sent to the applicant and the application status is marked as being approved.

  6. The OA Director notifies those applicants not selected to serve on the support staff electronically or in writing. These letters are sent after all staff positions are filled or by May 1, 2002, whichever occurs first.

Staffing Pool

Applicants not selected for support staff in their first area of interest are placed in the staffing pool maintained by the OA Director. Some staff positions can be filled by individuals with limited or no prior experience. All of the Conference Committee Lead Advisers may review applications and select staff from the staffing pool in order to fill their staff.

When an applicant is chosen from the staffing pool, the Lead Adviser will contact the applicant to confirm the applicant's interest in the position available. Once an applicant's interest is confirmed, the approval process continues as outlined above.
